Creating business networks in Africa

Countries: 10 Eastern and Southern African countries
Client: Danida
Year: 2080 – 2010

Background:  Business and private sector development in Eastern and Southern Africa are faced with many similar challenges. However, there has so far been very little cooperation and exchange of best practices between the business membership organisations in the region.

Assignment: Danida has contracted DI and Kenyan Association of Manufacturers to establish a network between the leading voices of the private sectors in Eastern and Southern Africa. The network has a main objective of identifying best practices for policy advocacy across African countries. Furthermore, it is also the ambition of the network that the participating business membership organisations establish common positions on common challenges for doing business in Africa.

DIBD brings expertise on designing and implementing policy advocacy, quality assurance and knowledge of international best practice on the specific issues.

So far, the network is focusing on four separate issues:

1.      Access finance
2.      Youth unemployment
3.      Trade facilitation
4.      Infrastructure and transport costs
