The business plan and feasibility study provides a thorough foundation for decision making in regards to establishment in international markets. Establishment abroad may cover re-location of production, outsourcing, or establishment of sales, setting up a production company, and/or strategic alliances with foreign partners.
The business plan will also contain strategic recommendations and define the business system, describing the optimal international entry mode for the Danish company.
The business plan can be used as documentation to potential external investors such as Danida, IFU, and NOPEF.
The business plan and feasibility study is a decision-making tool and is therefore primarily aimed at the management of the Danish company or at business developers working with strategic initiatives.
When DIBD assists a Danish company in developing a business plan, first step is to clearly define the project in a Terms of Reference, which is to be approved by the client.
The ToR is a mean to ensure that the partners agree on important indicators, which should be examined in connection with the establishment. DIBD works in accordance with a well-tested method, which is illustrated here.
Next step is collection of information about the company's products, strategies, and human and financial resources in order to get an overview of available resources. Together with information about the market and the business environment, it is now possible to subtract market trends and the company's strengths and weaknesses.
The main challenge is to collect and process the data that will enable us to identify international business opportunities for your company.
Based on the identified business opportunities, the business concept can be defined. The business concept consists of strategies for the establishment including considerations regarding outsourcing and re-location of production as well as development of the business system. In connection with the strategy development, strategies for the market, products, distribution, production, sales and marketing are prepared - of course taking into consideration what is relevant for your company.
With the strategies as point of departure, the business system can be defined. The business system describes the physical and structural system required to implement the strategies, and contains elements such as management, production, purchase, handling of raw materials, sales and marketing, and organisational set-up.
The business concept is described in the feasibility study clarifying profit and loss account, balance sheet, and cash-flow budget as well as the need for investments and financing.
The preparation of the business plan and feasibility study is carried out in close collaboration with the client.
DIBD's role is to ensure that the client considers all important elements of an international project. We function as project manager, facilitator, and advisor. Our involvement is based on the philosophy that the Danish companies should participate actively and make their own decisions.
In connection with the preparation of the business plan it is often necessary to spend 5-10 days in the country your company consider entering, in order to collect information and negotiate with potential partners, suppliers, investors etc.
The price depends on the scope of the project and is agreed upon at the initial meeting with a consultant from DIBD.
