Jacob is Director of DIBD and responsible for the business consulting activities and the advisory services related to capacity building in business organisations offered by DIBD. Consequently, Jacob primarily focuses on making Danish companies winners in a globalised world and ensuring the best possible business environment through competent business organisation development in difficult markets. More specifically, Jacob is heavily involved in developing the DIBD clients' international strategies, business development, and project implementation. In addition, Jacob also has strong experience in negotiating with clients' foreign partners and securing external financing.
Moreover, Jacob has been actively involved in the establishment and management of DIBD's offices in Shanghai, Moscow, Mumbai, New York and Sao Paulo that are all assisting a broad range of Danish companies in penetrating these markets. Hence, Jacob has been one of the main drivers behind the DIBD activities in the BRIC countries and the US, making DIBD a leading consultant on how Danish companies can grow in emerging and developing markets.
Competences and experience
Following a trip around the world only carrying a backpack, Jacob started as student in DIBD in May 1997. He became a Business Development Consultant on 1 January 1998, and after four years as Regional Manager, Jacob was appointed Deputy Director in April 2007 and Director in September 2010. Prior to his employment in DIBD, Jacob had worked with Unibørs Securities and Bikuben Securities, where he used his skills to advice clients on sophisticated financial instruments, mortgage deeds, and bond trading.
In DIBD, Jacob has focused on assignments for clients in the BRIC countries, as wells other countries in Asia, the US, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. Combined, Jacob has been involved in more than 150 projects, and a large part of his time with DIBD has included travelling to the regions mentioned above. Jacob has developed strong competences and substantial experience within strategy development, cross-border management, and project implementation related to global business development, as well as project finance and partner search. Other areas of expertise include strategic Corporate Social Responsibility and Base-of-Pyramid projects, where clients are assisted in creating novel strategic alliances and developing unique business models in emerging and developing markets.
In the US, Jacob worked intensely on developing and introducing a concept aimed at ensuring Danish ICT and life science companies better access to investors and partners in the country. This project was later expanded to include other Danish companies interested in penetrating or optimising present activities on the US market through the DIBD office in New York. In Asia focus is on China, India, Thailand, South Korea and Vietnam. Other focus areas include Brazil and selected markets in the former Eastern European countries as well as in the Middle East and Africa. Projects in the latter often involve collaboration with the Danida B2B Programme and sometimes also the Industrialisation Fund for the Developing Countries (IFU).
